Things to Do
Spending time outdoors is a favored pastime among the nature lovers that call this coveted neighborhood home. Sutro Heights is a stunning, historic, cliffside park featuring several trailheads and a rich history. Self-made millionaire Adolph Sutro built the park in 1885 as an elegant and refined public garden spanning over 20 acres (known today as Lands End). Once a public bathhouse offering seven saltwater swimming pools, the Sutro Baths are now in ruins and a historical landmark worth visiting for the incredible views and history.
When splashing in saltwater and building sandcastles with family is in order, pack a picnic and head to China Beach. In addition to gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands, you can glimpse tidepools here. Head to the trailhead at the end of Sea Cliff Avenue to view a monument dedicated to the Chinese fisherman who camped on the beach long ago. If you prefer a relaxing night of watching intriguing cinema, stop by Balboa Theatre to see everything from indie films and special screenings to the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
